Eve, the girl with bobbed hair

Sir William Russell Flint

P.R.A., P.R.W.S., R.S.W., R.O.I., R.E.

The second published work by Russell Flint
"Simple as it is in conception and treatment, yet there is in it both a subtlety and a bigness of expression that one might describe as masterly.
This girl stands truly enveloped in the luminous atmosphere; one feels the artistic truth of the tones of her flesh, her hair,
her white wrap, in relation to each other and to the sky and landscape. Yet here is, too, a note of more significant expression; for, as she stands on those "wild sea banks",
not like Dido "with a willow in her hand" to wave back her love, but a modern Eve holding a green apple, her wistful look seems to hold in it all the maiden curiosity of the world."
