"The setting was a model makers workshop near Sancerre, on the Loire, adapted for use for an artist's studio.
It made an attractive painting room but only in summer as there was no heating.
Even in warm summer weather, the model found the draught in the gallery rather trying".

Well known for its wine,
Sancerre is a French wine Appellation d'origine contrôlée or AOC for wine produced in the area of Sancerre in the eastern part of the Loire valley, southeast of Orléans.
Almost all of the appellation lies on the left bank of the Loire, opposite Pouilly-Fumé.
